Father's Day Writing Contest |
 |
YouCouldWriteABook.com, the networking site for writers, experts, reading enthusiasts, and publishers, has announced its 2007 Father's Day Writing Contest. The contest, which runs from May 14 through June 17, 2007, is free and open to both amateur and professional writers in all genres. "Everyone has a great story to tell about fathers, grandfathers, or the topic of fatherhood," said Dennis Stack, President of YouCouldWriteABook.com. "We are looking for fiction, non-fiction, poetry, lyrics, and scripts that resonate with the theme of fatherhood." |
 |
Noting that entries will be judged by the YouCouldWriteABook.com editorial team on the basis of how well the entry supports the fatherhood theme, writing style, uniqueness, and member rating and reviews, Stack encouraged avid readers to register on the site. "Writers thrive on feedback, and we're relying on readers to rate the Father's Day contest entries and offer their reviews," he said.
The contest will offer prizes to first, second, and third place winners. The First Place prize consists of the author's photo and promotion in the Featured Writers column of the site for one month, plus a $50 Amazon.com gift certificate. Second and Third Place prizes are "Passports to Paradise" - three-day/two-night certificates for accommodations at one of dozens of hotels across the United States.
Stack is quick to note that YouCouldWriteABook.com offers writers much more than the opportunity to win prizes. The site offers writers a bevy of resources on honing their craft, publishing their work, and promoting their books, as well as the opportunity to publish their work on the site and find kindred spirits in the site's social network. "We've designed YouCouldWriteABook.com so that everyone from novices to established writers will find genuinely useful information and beneficial networking opportunities," Stack said.
Even for a published author like Barbara Littman, a founding member of YouCouldWriteABook.com, activities like book promotion are a daunting task. When St. Martin's Press published her 1999 book, "Everyday Ways to Raise Smart, Strong, Confident Girls: Successful Teens Tell Us What Works," Littman said she didn't realize that, "Unless you're prepared to get the information out to buyers, your book isn't going to sell." YouCouldWriteABook.com is designed to both promote authors' books outright and to give writers the tools they need to find their readership. "Writing and marketing are two different skills. The site helps authors make the leap and sell books, whether they're published by a major publishing house, self-published, print-on-demand, or e-books," said Littman.
Stack concluded, "Our 2007 Father's Day Writing Contest gives writers both the encouragement they need to get involved in the YouCouldWriteABook.com community and the opportunity to win terrific prizes." |

Collectible African Educational Doll |
 |
PRNewswire - EthiDolls, developer of African signature dolls and accessories that teach history and tradition and celebrate cultural diversity has introduced its Makeda, Queen of Sheba doll, storybook and CD. |
 |
The collectible quality doll and accessories are based on the ancient legend of Queen Makeda, the first female ruler of Ethiopia. The dolls are hand crafted for EthiDolls by Madame Alexander, producer of several popular collectible doll lines. The costumes, hand-woven in Ethiopia, are rich in detail and authentic reproductions of the traditional dress still worn today. A young Ethiopian artist created beautiful illustrations for the accompanying full-color storybook. The CD provides a compelling narration of Queen Makeda's rise to the throne and her relationship with King Solomon. "In this fast-paced and media savvy age, we hope to enrich the lives of young black girls and their multicultural playmates through a collectible line of educational African royalty dolls and other traditional products from Africa," says Salome Yilma, EthiDolls' chief executive officer. "We're eager to serve the market with upscale, premium quality products that meet high expectations and deliver a value added learning experience." Visit www.ethidolls.com for more information. |
